Elect Kevin Weeden

Democratic Candidate for Michigan State Representative District 27

Statement from Kevin Weeden

My name is Kevin Weeden and I would like to ask for your help in electing me as your State Representative this year.  I thought I would take a moment to introduce myself to you.  A vote for me is a vote for an individual whose only agenda is to make a difference in the lives of my fellow citizens.  I stand before you with a sincere desire to represent the residents of our district, and to become instrumental in improving the quality of life around us.

When I chose to run for State Representative, there was one main reason that influenced my decision.  Simply put, the reason is that I want to help people.  When I speak of people’s lives, I am referring to each and every one of you - regardless of your religion, your ethnic background, the color of your skin, or your orientation.  We each deserve the same rights as what our next door neighbor has.  We should not look to judge other people because of their difference.  Rather, we should accept them and learn from each other’s uniqueness.  When we look past people’s facades, we see that we are all the same, and we should be represented accordingly. After all diversity is not political, it's American.

At this point I am considered the underdog in this campaign, as this is my first run for a political office.  However, this also means that I have no pre-determined political agenda.  The only agenda I have is to listen to your needs, to make decisions that will benefit individuals – not the government, and to speak out as a representative of the people for the improvement of each and every one of our lives.  Although my background has not been focused in politics, I have the common sense to understand what is happening to our wonderful state and what needs to be done in order to turn things around.

The government has turned itself into a separate entity, no longer representing the people of Michigan.  My role as State Representative will provide a sense of checks and balances in this state – helping to ensure that the government’s main priority is protecting the people and the well-being of Michigan.  Right now, Lansing is broken - but it does not stop there.  It trickles down, into our schools, our police and fire departments, our roads and streets, and our economy - affecting our jobs, our taxes, and the overall strength of our communities.

As your State Representative, I will work tirelessly to get back to the basics and show the rest of the nation that Michigan is still here.  I will work to bring back the residents we have lost.  I will do everything I can to attract businesses into our state, by showing prospective entrepreneurs that now is a perfect time to invest in Michigan.  I will push this state toward becoming a forefront leader in research, technology, and alternative energy.  I will work to fix the tax issues in this state, than placing a more financial burden on our hardworking taxpayers.  Did you know that it costs more money to implement new taxes?

It is time for the leaders of this state to recognize that its residents deserve better than what has been dealt for them over the past few years.  Change is desperately needed in Lansing, to correct how our government is being run.  My message to you is plain and simple:  Let’s get back to the basics and fix what has been broken – your quality of life.

I thank you for your time and I look forward to meeting you during my campaign this year.
